Block Scheduling

Ah yes, Block scheduling! Long grueling classes, going home an hour early, two lunches. My days here at Southside charter high school are starting to really shape up.

Now, I'm no stranger to block scheduling. Before I was a proud Southerner, I was a pioneer at Batesville Junior high school. They called their days A, and B (lame right). So when I heard sweet sweet Southside was changing up their scheduling, I was impressed. I honestly enjoy the longer class time. Having a much longer period to have a strong one on one with my teachers is exactly why I came back to school during the Pandemic! Being in a learning environment is what pushes me to learn and grow. If I wasn't able to sit in a classroom for an extended period of time my teachers would sound like Miss Othmar from Peanuts. The time in class is great, the time to walk there, not so much.

In the halls at Southside, they created a "one way" hall. Meaning you need to make one full circle around the school to get to your next class if it's not in the main hall. The fresh air can be nice, but the heat mixed with wearing a mask for eight hours of the day, no thank you. However, you take the good with the bad. And I don't see much of the problem with our new schedule.

Who knows what the future is going to bring. I have hope beyond measures for this new schedule that caught all of us by surprise. For now, I say to take the new schedule one day at a time, and I believe you'll grow to like block scheduling.
